From Humble Beginnings

Our Houston ramen history traces back to a young man’s spark in Malaysia. At 18, Eric began as a kitchen helper, driven by a deep curiosity about flavors, ingredients, and technique. The fast-paced environment taught him the basics of cooking and a deeper rhythm of the kitchen—how timing, care, and creativity work together. These experiences formed the roots of a culinary passion that would become Tamashi.

A Journey to Refining the Craft

When Eric moved to the U.S., he immersed himself in different Asian culinary disciplines, learning hibachi grilling, sushi artistry, and more. Each style brought new skills and a new understanding of flavor. He became known for his precision and innovative takes on tradition. These experiences would influence what Tamashi would bring to Houston ramen history: deeply authentic and creatively imagined food.

Tamashi was born from a desire to share Eric’s story through food—a blend of tradition and modernity, of humble roots and bold ideas. Every dish at Tamashi reflects years of discipline, cultural exploration, and deep love for the craft. What began as one chef’s dream evolved into a community space where food brings people together. Today, Tamashi is a proud part of Houston ramen history.

We’ve had the honor of building relationships with every new store, growing a diverse community, and sharing dishes that carry stories from East and Southeast Asia.
